Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how VITals ("the app", "we", "our") handles information when you use it. By downloading, installing, or using VITals, you acknowledge that you have read this policy and agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
In short: VITals does not collect any data. Nothing you enter or that the app retrieves is ever sent to, stored on, or seen by the developer or any third party. The app has no backend server and no analytics — everything stays on your device, under your control.
1. No affiliation with VIT University
VITals is an independent personal project, built by a VIT student for educational and personal-productivity purposes. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to VIT University, VTOP, or any of their official systems in any way.
2. VITals does not collect your data
VITals does not collect, transmit, or have any access to your personal information or academic data. There is no developer-owned server, database, or analytics service anywhere in the app — so there is nowhere for your data to be collected to, even if we wanted it to be.
To function, the app does need your VTOP registration number and password, entered directly by you, so it can log in to VTOP on your behalf, locally on your device, and display data tied to your own account, such as:
- Your VTOP registration number and password
- Attendance, timetable, and course enrollment data
- Marks, grades, and CGPA-related data
- Exam schedules and academic calendar information
- Faculty information for your enrolled courses
This information travels only between your device and VTOP's own servers, exactly as it would if you logged into VTOP through a browser yourself. It is never routed through, copied to, or collected by any server operated by the developer.
3. Local storage and encryption
Your VTOP credentials are encrypted using AES-256 and stored using your device's secure, native credential storage. Academic data fetched from VTOP (attendance, timetable, marks, etc.) is cached locally on your device so the app remains fast and usable offline.
VITals does not operate a backend server, and your credentials are not intended to be sent to or stored on any developer-controlled or third-party server. Everything is stored locally on your device, encrypted, and nowhere else.
4. How information is used on your device
Information retrieved from VTOP stays on your device and is used solely, locally, to power the app's own features: attendance tracking, timetable views, the academic calendar, CGPA planning, marks and grade history, exam schedules, faculty information, and reminders. Locally stored data may also be used to remember your preferences and support offline functionality. None of this processing happens anywhere but your own device.
5. Notifications
Reminder and class notifications are scheduled locally on your device based on data already stored or generated on that device. VITals does not use a remote push notification service, and no notification content is sent to or processed by any external server. Notifications exist solely to support the app's own functionality.
6. Data sharing and third parties
Since VITals does not collect any data in the first place, there is nothing for us to sell, rent, trade, or share with anyone. We do not share your VTOP credentials or academic data with any third party, advertiser, or analytics provider. The only external communication the app performs is with VTOP itself, over the internet, solely to authenticate your login and retrieve your own academic data — the same exchange that would occur if you logged into VTOP directly through a browser.
7. Shared timetables (Share Timetable feature)
If you use the Share Timetable feature to save a friend's schedule, that data is stored locally on your own device only and is never uploaded to any server. Exchanging a timetable code with a friend is something you initiate and control entirely outside the app.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical measures, including AES-256 encryption and platform-native secure storage, to help protect the data stored on your device. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your device and its lock/passcode secure, since the app's local encryption relies on your device remaining under your control.
9. Your control over your data
Logging out of the app clears your saved credentials, cached academic data, saved friend schedules, and any locally stored registration number from your device. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data entirely, since nothing is retained anywhere else.
10. Educational use and accuracy disclaimer
VITals is provided for educational and personal productivity purposes only, on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. While the app aims to accurately reflect the data available on VTOP, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information displayed (including attendance, marks, exam dates, or skippable-class counts). Any decisions you make — including decisions about attending or skipping classes — based on information shown in the app are entirely your own responsibility. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer disclaims liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on the app or its data.
11. Children's privacy
VITals is intended for use by enrolled VIT University students who hold a valid VTOP account and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from individuals who are not VTOP account holders.
12. Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time as the app evolves. Updated versions will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date, and may also be reflected in the app or its project repository. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
